People against abortion protested outside of the Thursday Planned Parenthood event.

They rallied hours before people started arriving at the hotel and then lined up on the streets surrounding the Marriott.

Anyone driving along Collins Road Thursday afternoon got greeted with graphic pictures of aborted fetuses.

“As hard as it is to look at, I think it’s critical that we do. We have to face what abortion is,” Pro-Life Action League member Eric Scheidler said.

Cedar Rapids resident Cynthia Gunsolly said, “Abortion is murder. Abortion is killing children in the womb…Life is sacred. You should not murder your babies in the womb.”

People from all over Iowa and even a few surrounding states braved the weather to stand up for what they believe.

“The fact that we will stand out here and get cold and wet means we really mean it. We’re not just fair weather pro-lifers,” protestor Ann Scheidler said.

Protestors say Planned Parenthood makes it too easy for teenagers and expectant mothers to get an abortion.

“They are building these huge clinics all over the country, trying to become the sort of Wal-mart of the abortion industry,” Ann Scheidler said, “Planned Parenthood is not the benign, family organization they want you to think they are.”

By making the choice to stand-up against a large, national organization, the men and women believe they will make a big difference.

Protestors also collected baby supplies for expectant mothers. They said they would give those materials away in case some pregnant women were considering getting an abortion for financial reasons.
