Waterloo Police Officer Shoots Pit Bull After Attack

WATERLOO – A pit bull was shot by a police officer after authorities said it attacked someone with a child stroller before charging at police Saturday afternoon.

Animal control officers responded along with police to detain the dog around 2:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of Commercial Street in Waterloo, when the dog charged at a Waterloo police officer and the officer shot the dog with his handgun, police said.

The dog was taken to a veterinarian but had to be put down due to injuries, police said. There is no word yet if anyone was injured.
