AP/KCRG - Iowa has taken pride in it's first in the nation status for the Iowa Caucus, but to maintain that, officials may have to make some drastic changes.

Thursday, officials in South Carolina are expected to move the date of their primary to early January, in hopes of avoiding other states which have moved their votes to early February.

The announcement will leave officials in New Hampshire and Iowa left with an important decision, move the dates of their political events, or lose importance in the race for President.

Iowa law states that the Caucus must be the first in the nation, so if New Hampshite moves it's primary to early January, the Iowa Caucus may have to be moved to December 2007. Ray Hoffman, the chairman of Iowa's Republican Party told the Associated Press, "If they move, we will move. We'll have to see what happens."
