Iowa City – A Coralville teen faces an accessory charge after police said he failed to prevent or report a shooting in February.

Police said Xzaiver Mallard, also known as Zae, knew that Dakota Lee Williams was going to rob an Iowa City apartment back in February.

On February 15th, Dakota Lee Williams, 18, allegedly broke into an apartment on N. Dodge Street with a handgun and demanded money from a 27-year-old male. The two struggled and the gun discharged. The victim was shot in both hands. Williams was charged with attempted murder, first-degree burglary, and going armed with intent.

Police said Mallard knew about the robbery and shooting and that phone calls and texts were made between Williams and Mallard before and after the incident.

Mallard was charged with accessory after the fact, an aggravated misdemeanor, and was picked up early Wednesday morning. He remains in the Johnson County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
