CEDAR RAPIDS - We might be humble here in the Midwest, at least, until our team wins.
"Panthers can take on the Cyclones, the Hawkeyes, Panthers can take on the Jayhawks. Why not? They can take anybody,” said UNI Alum Michael Hadrath.
In a state known for bitter rivalries, at Deanoz bar in Cedar Rapids - a city known for the large population of Hawkeye and Cyclone fans - the Panthers are winning.
"It's nice to see, especially here in Cedar Rapids right now, because everyone is an Iowa fan. It’s nice to be supporting the Panthers, and I like to support the purple,” said UNI Senior Samantha Brandel.
"All of a sudden all of these Panther fans are coming out of the woodwork. But that's good, everybody can hop on the band wagon. There's room for everybody,” said Amy Eglseder.
Of course, leave a little room for her 7-foot-tall cousin.
"The center, Jordan Eglseder is my cousin,” said Amy.
The upset against top ranked Kansas on Saturday night has turned the spotlight in Iowa on Panther Pride.
"We saw a bunch of people with Hawkeyes stuff on, and I thought, you know what, this is UNI's turn. Take that off and put on the purple,” said Hadrath.
The UNI band wagon will keep rolling until at least next weekend when they play in the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA Tournament. Their opponent will be decided on Sunday.
