City of Cedar Rapids Announces Possible Central Fire Station Locations

CEDAR RAPIDS - The City of Cedar Rapids is beginning the process of relocating the city's central fire station. On Thursday, acting Fire Chief Mark English unveiled six possible locations to a selection committee.

Four locations are in the same area of First Avenue East. They include the Emerald Nights block and current locations of The History Center and a Taco Bell restaurant.

All four sites provide quick access to First Avenue and to Interstate 380, which English says is key criteria in picking a new site.

Other possible locations include Cleveland Park or the corner of Sixth Street and Third Avenue southwest.

The committee hopes to have a recommendation for the City Council in 60 days.
