BURLINGTON (AP) — Burlington police say a 3-year-old boy died after he was found trapped in a metal futon-style bed.

The death of KyVan Bogdan Chavez has been ruled an accident and police have closed the investigation.

According to a preliminary autopsy report, the boy died of compression asphyxiation, also called chest compression, which limits the expansion of the lungs and interferes with breathing.

Emergency crews were called to the boy's home last Sunday on a report of an unresponsive child. According to police, family members found Chavez trapped in the bed in an upstairs bedroom.

The toddler was taken to a hospital, where he died.
