DES MOINES (AP) - Des Moines police say a mother who told her 8-year-old daughter to grab a knife while the woman tussled with her brother will not be facing criminal charges.
The Iowa Department of Human Services is still investigating the March 9 incident in which 21-year-old Noble Griffin was stabbed three times by his niece.
Sgt. Lori Lavorato, a spokeswoman for the Des Moines police, said Monday the girl's mother was allegedly quarreling with Griffin over a cigarette when she reportedly told her daughter to pick up the knife.
Griffin said last week he didn't want charges to be filed.
Griffin was treated and released at a Des Moines hospital for his injuries. Lavorato said she did not know if the child had been removed from her mother's home.
