CHELSEA - Rivers and Streams are slowly but surely advancing across the Iowa landscape tonight. Flooding is now causing some minor troubles, it's what forecasters have been warning of all week.
Now, area rivers and streams are starting to crest and are swallowing up anything in the path of the rising water. The Tama County town of Chelsea is one town where water is invading.
The main road heading into the town is shut down, that comes as no surprise. People we found say this is just another day.
Chelsea gained national attention after the flood of 1993. Back then, the federal government offered to move the town to higher ground. But many refused, saying they don't mind the water and don't want to abandon ship.
Now, despite the high water, it seems no one is complaining about wet basements. Chelsea resident Kurt Kelly says, "You just get used to it, there are people that have been there all their lives and are not going anywhere, just live with it."
Town leaders say they expect the Iowa River to crest in the next few days.
