Police: North Liberty Daycare Provider Drunk on the Job

NORTH LIBERTY- A North Liberty woman faces five counts of child endangerment after police said she was intoxicated while watching children at her house.

North Liberty Police were called to the residence of Rachel J. Smith, 1492 Vandello Circle, around 3:50 p.m. Thursday for a medical call of a woman who was lying down and was weak and disoriented in the front lawn.

When the officer arrived, police said Smith, 36, appeared to be very intoxicated and was somewhat unresponsive.

Smith is a licensed day care provider at her home. At the time of the incident, there were five children under her supervision. Smith admitted to police to drinking several cans of beer and taking three pills of Pseudoephedrine, according to police complaints.

Smith was arrested and later charged with five counts of child endangerment without injury.
