NE Iowa Girl Swept Away by Flood Waters
NEW HAMPTON (AP) - Officials say a 13-year-old girl is recovering after she was swept away by flood waters in rural Alta Vista in northeast Iowa.
The Chickasaw County sheriff's office says the teenager had gotten off a school activity bus Thursday night. Instead of walking home along a road, she took a short cut across a field and was swept away. Officials say she went through a culvert before she managed to get out of the water. She went to a nearby farmhouse for help. The sheriff's office says the teen was taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries and possible hypothermia and released. The girl was not identified.
