Iowa Police Investigating Alleged Bad Check Ring

DES MOINES (AP) - Police in Des Moines and five surrounding communities say they are tracking an alleged ring of payroll check forgers.
Detectives say ring members are is believed to have dropped more than $7,000 in bad checks in Des Moines, West Des Moines, Urbandale, Clive, Norwalk and Carlisle.
Des Moines Detective Ray Carrington is seeking arrest warrants on two counts of forgery for 23-year-old Dominique Belle, who is one of five suspects currently in jail in Kentucky on similar charges.
Carrington says Belle is believed to have obtained an Iowa identification card on Feb. 17, and cashed more than $1,900 in bogus checks that same day.
Carrington says the group is believed to be from the Chicago area, and may have worked a similar series of scams in Missouri before coming to Iowa.
