CHARLES CITY - Attorneys representing a Charles City teen accused of killing his 3-year-old cousin tried to suppress an alleged confession in Floyd County District Court Tuesday, the Waterloo Courier reports.

The attorneys for Edgar Concepcion Jr., 15, who faces multiple charges, including first degree murder and first degree sexual abuse, say that Concepcion and his family, who are Filipino, did not understand English well enough to know what was being asked or said by investigators the night of the murder.

There was no formal translator at the interviews with Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation agents.

Testimony on other motions including a challenge to the search warrant will continue at 9 a.m. Monday, March 15.

A tentative trial date of May 4 has been set.
