CEDAR RAPIDS - A potential fuel contamination scare at the Eastern Iowa Airport Tuesday night is still causing some problems Wednesday.
But airport officials say it's slowly getting sorted out.
A test Tuesday of the tanks at the airport's fuel farm raised the contamination question. Airport officials say the fuel was retested Wednesday and the results showed no problems. That means airport operators can resume refueling planes from the fuel farm tanks.
As a precaution, airlines needing fuel for a next destination had to cancel some flights Tuesday night. The airport brought in fresh fuel from Des Moines and notified airlines of the problem.
Airlines earlier on Wednesday were flying planes in with enough fuel to make it to a next destination.
The disruption forced some fliers to rebook both Tuesday night and also Wednesday morning. One traveler heading to Phoenix said that issue along with the weather prompted her to make a few changes.
"That and the fog, we weren't sure so we came a little bit early--hopefully we're on time," Becky Norris said.
Airport officials in Cedar Rapids say it will take time to find seats for passengers disrupted by the fuel problem. But the biggest issue Wednesday, and reason for some flight delays, was heavy fog and not fuel concerns.
