BAGLEY, WIS. - People in the small village of Bagley, Wisconsin, are digging themselves out of a muddy mess today. Seven inches of rain fell on that community in just four hours. Bagley is right across the river from Clayton, Iowa.
This is one of the hardest hit homes in the village of bagley. The water last night came clear up to this level. Now everything outside and inside this house is covered in mud.
Carol Everett says the worst night of her lifecame out of nowhere.
Everett said, "We heard a noise, and I threw my feet out of bed, and I says, 'Don get up'. I had water up to my knees in our bedroom."
Everett says her entire house was full of water within five minutes. Now she's left with nothing, expect mud everywhere.
Everett said, "I have nothing. It's all ruined in mud."
Everett and her husband got out of their house on foot, others weren't so lucky.
Grant County Emergency Manager Julie Loeffelholz said, "We had a lot of homes where we had to evacuate by boat."
Fortunately no one in Bagley was hurt. But dozens of families have lost everything in this flash flood that took so many by surprise.
Loeffelholz said, "All of the debris washed down off the bluff and caused significant drainage problems, which was like a cork."
Emergency management is trying to restore power and water to this area and they are preparing for what could be another round of heavy rain.
The American Red Cross set up a temporary shelter at the fire station in Bagley. But Wednesday night people needing shelter can go to River Ridge High School in Patch Grove, Wis.
