DES MOINES (AP) - Gov. Chet Culver says the Department of Economic Development is doing fine despite the firing of more employees linked to problems with the state's film promotion office.

Asked Tuesday about fired managers Jeff Rossate and Amy E. Johnson, Culver responded he had confidence in new Economic Development administrator Bret Mills. Culver wouldn't discuss why Rossate and Johnson had been fired but added that Mills could handle the situation.

After his comments, a Culver spokesman said a third employee, legal counsel Melanie Johnson, had lost her job.

The three were involved in the film office, which has been beset with claims of mismanagement. All were mentioned in a Des Moines Register story Saturday about the film program.

Since September, three other department managers have been fired or quit.

Mills was named to head the department in December.
