CEDAR RAPIDS – students, parents and teachers looked forward to the Linn-Mar/Jefferson Boys Basketball game for months.
When weather cancelled school in Cedar Rapids Tuesday, many feared the game would get postponed, too. But, administrators decided to play ball and people we spoke to applauded that decision.
A little winter weather couldn't stop students, friends and family members from heating up the Jefferson High School gym.
"We live in Atkins, but came into town this morning because there was no way we were going to miss the game tonight,” grandparent Jan Olson said.
You'll rarely find a student complaining about having a snow day, but plenty would cry foul about missing a big game.
"I was excited about having no school, but it was kind of a bonus because then you can come to this and don't have to worry about having school all day,” junior Anna Striegel said.
Skipping school also means student athletes got a little more sleep...which isn't always a good thing.
"We're kind of concerned they might not play as well. They're out of their routine. So, it's kind of a little bit different,” parent Kristi Montague said.
Even with the threat of extra rest ruining the game, most agreed they'd rather play than reschedule.
"The decision to play the game -- I'm really glad about it because it's fine outside. The kids are ready to play and fans are ready to go,” parent Steve Brown said.
