WATERLOO (AP) - A fired music professor has sued the University of Northern Iowa and the Board of Regents, claiming discrimination, harassment and breach of contact.

Bradley Barrett was fired in December after a former high school student sued him for alleged sexual abuse.

Attorney David Dutton alleges in the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids that Barrett was fired because of his sexual orientation.

Northern Iowa officials declined to comment on the lawsuit and said the Iowa Attorney General's Office would be defending the university.

Barrett taught music at a Springfield, Mo. high school. Adam Walker in November 2008 filed a lawsuit in a Missouri federal court against Barrett, the school district and a former principal. It accuses Barrett, who denies the allegation, of sexually abusing the now 31-year-old Walker from 1992 to 1995.
