Three Arrested for Meth Possession

IOWA CITY (AP) - Johnson County authorities say three men have been arrested in connection with several drug charges, including possession of methamphetamine.

Johnson County sheriff's deputies late Saturday arrested Dean Edward Atkinson, 50, of Lone Tree, Michael William Elliott Jr., 38, and Steven John Ranberger, 43, both of Muscatine.

According to authorities, deputies responded to a report of suspicious vehicles near in rural Johnson County. During a search of the property, deputies allegedly detected a strong smell of ether and overheard the men discussing drug activity and quantities.

The deputies allegedly found drug paraphernalia, marijuana, methamphetamine and manufacturing materials within arm's reach of all three suspects.

Atkinson, Elliott and Ranberger have been released from the Johnson County Jail on their own recognizance. They had unlisted telephone numbers and could not be reached for comment.
