Iowa Officials Promote Tax Credit for Families
DES MOINES (AP) - State officials and first lady Mari Culver are urging taxpayers to take advantage of free online tax preparation services and the Earned Income Tax Credit.
Culver held a news conference Monday to promote the Free File Alliance, which is a partnership between the IRS, 20 state tax agencies and the nation's electronic tax software manufacturers. It's all part of a program aimed to help low- and moderate-income families. Culver has been trying raise awareness of the Earned Income Tax Credit for families that earn up to $43,000 a year. The credit can be as much as $5,600. She says the IRS estimates that as many as 20 percent of eligible taxpayers aren't aware of the tax credit. Culver says that translates into thousands of Iowans and her goal is to reduce that number. Don't attack someone personally. Keep it civil and be responsible. Share KnowledgeBe truthful.
