SPRINGDALE, Ark. (AP) - Tyson Foods Inc. is laying off 480 workers in Iowa as it shifts some beef and pork production from its plant in Council Bluffs to Tennessee and Texas.
The company based in Spingdale, Ark., says the move is designed to bring production closer to its growing customer base in the South.
The company says part of the second-shift production in Council Bluffs will be suspended in mid-March and about 480 of the plant's 1,300 workers will be laid off.
Production will be moved to plants in Goodlettsville, Tenn., and Sherman, Texas.
The company laid off workers will be given the chance to apply for jobs within Tyson.
