Minnesota Man Charged in Fatal Iowa Crash

SPENCER (AP) - Authorities say a Minnesota man accused of hitting and killing a bicyclist in northern Iowa last summer faces a traffic charge.

The Clay County sheriff's office says Cameron Koopman, 21, of Brewster, Minn., was driving a van that hit Mark Anderson, 58, of Langdon, on Aug. 18.

The sheriff's office says Koopman and Anderson were both heading south on a highway near Spencer, and Koopman didn't see Anderson and hit him.

The sheriff's office has now charged Koopman with one count of failure to stop in an assured clear distance. The charge is punishable by up to 30 days in jail and $625 fine.

Authorities say Koopman could also lose his driver's license for six months and face an additional $1,000 fine because it was a fatal accident.
