DES MOINES (AP) - Gov. Chet Culver has hired veteran political operative Abby Curran as his campaign manager as this year's race for governor begins to take shape.
Curran was deputy field director for former Sen. John Edwards' caucus campaign in the 2008 election cycle. She was a field organizer in Dubuque for former Rep. Dick Gephardt's campaign in 2003 and 2004.
She is a graduate of the University of Virginia.
While Culver has not formally announced his intentions, he's raising money aggressively and assembling a campaign staff, making clear he'll seek a second term.
Four Republicans are seeking the GOP nomination - Sioux City businessman Bob Vander Plaats, former Gov. Terry Branstad and state Reps. Christopher Rants and Rod Roberts.
