Police arrested a 15-year-old boy Wednesday after they say he broke into a Cedar Rapids home and tried to steal electronics.

Kelsey Beckett, of 1415 Fifth Ave. SE, was arrested on charges of third-degree burglary and interference with official acts.

Police went to the 1700 block of Sixth Avenue SE around 7:35 p.m. when a suspicious person was reported. Officers saw Beckett acting suspicious and a K-9 unit helped track him to a house at 1721 Eighth Ave. SE.

Police surrounded the house. According to the police report, Beckett would come to the front door, open it, and then quickly close it. Officers eventually found him hiding in an upstairs closet.

Beckett gave the name of Kelsey Smith when he was found, prompting the interference charge, police said. He was taken to the Linn County Juvenile Detention Center.
