Mediacom has reached a 12-month retransmission agreement with Sinclair Broadcast Group, less than two days before a eight-day extension was set to expire at midnight Friday.
The agreement, announced Thursday, will ensure that Iowa Mediacom subscribers will continue to receive KGAN-CBS 2 in Cedar Rapids, KFXA-FOX 28 in Cedar Rapids, and KDSM-FOX 17 in Des Moines.
Sinclair had pushed for a higher royalty payments per subscriber than it received in the last retransmission deal three years ago. The two companies did not disclose terms of the new deal, as is typical in the cable and broadcast industries.
The main surprise in Thursday’s announcement was the term of the agreement. Retransmission deals are typically negotiated on a three-year basis.
