DES MOINES — One of two brothers accused of hitting and killing an Adel motorcyclist after stealing gas in Des Moines is slated to go on trial.

Orlando Rodriguez, of Des Moines, faces vehicular homicide and involuntary manslaughter charges in the Sept. 23 crash that killed Bruce Mundy. His trial is scheduled to begin Monday in Polk County District Court.

Rodriguez and his brother, Santos, are accused of stealing $27 worth of gas from a convenience store. As they left in a vehicle, they allegedly hit Mundy on his motorcycle.

Santos Rodriguez's attorney says his client's trial has been postponed. Lawyers in the case are expected to meet Wednesday for a hearing on whether he is competent to stand trial.
