Edlerly Iowan Killed After Being Hit by Car

AMES (AP) - An Ames man has died after being hit by a car while crossing a street to a bus stop.

Lyle Clapp died Wednesday at a Des Moines Hospital after being struck by a car earlier that day.

Police say the 71-year-old man was crossing the street when he was hit by a car driven by Whitney Zimmerman of Huxley.

Police say Zimmerman told officers she was unable to see Clapp.

The investigation is continuing and no charges have been filed.
