Woman Facing Charges After Stabbing in Iowa City

IOWA CITY - An Iowa City woman faces charges for allegedly stabbing a man with an knife. Police responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Arthur St. Sunday around one a.m. for a report of a person being stabbed.

According to police reports, a man reported that Carolyn P. Lewis, 46, entered a bedroom armed with an 8 inch knife and starting stabbing or slashing at the man and struck him in the leg, causing profuse bleeding.

Police said Lewis first denied any involvement, saying the man cut his leg while playing in the snow, but then later changed her story, saying he cut his leg on a glass while they were arguing.

Police said the man’s story appeared most credible.

Lewis is charged with domestic abuse assault with intent and displaying a weapon, and willful injury causing bodily injury.

She remains in the Johnson County Jail Sunday on a $10,000 cash-only bond.
