Iowa National Guard Members Home Just in Time for Christmas

About 230 members of the Iowa National Guard almost didn't make it home for the holidays.

Bad weather delayed the 132nd Fighter Wing's return from Iraq for two days. But the wait ended just in time.

Little Wyatt Greenfield got all dressed up in a brand new outfit to welcome home his mom.
And, after much waiting, it was time to follow dad to find her as she returned with the rest of the 132nd Fighter Wing.

The return of loved ones definitely made for many Christmas wishes fulfilled.

And after being delayed for two days, balloons and smiles were welcome sights to soldiers.

“I was a little nervous…it was kind of shaky for a while. It’s awesome to be home for Christmas,” said Senior Airman Eric Tate.

For one of these troops, this day was made even more memorable by the shirt his wife was wearing, announcing they were having a boy.

“It’s a surprise. So good to be home. It’s been a long trip but it’s good to be home,” said Staff Sergeant David Funk.

So good, that some of these airmen stepped off the plane in the giving spirit.

This dad brought his son the video game, Guitar Hero. And to us, it seemed a fitting gift, considering it came from a hero himself... Just one of many returning home for the holiday.
