Admirers Gather to Meet Palin at Sioux City Book Signing

By Aaron Hepker

SIOUX CITY (AP) - Hundreds of supporters of former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin braved frigid weather in Iowa to get the former Alaska governor to sign copies of her new book.

Palin's stop in Iowa increased speculation about a possible presidential bid. The state's caucuses usually kick off the presidential nominating season.

Although political strategists say the visit is a sign that can't be missed, Palin did little more at the tightly controlled appearance than sign books. Only a few photographers were allowed in briefly, and reporters were banned.

Still, the location appeared carefully chosen. Palin's stop was in Republican-dominated western Iowa, a region likely to be her
base if she decides to pursue a presidential run.
