DUBUQUE – Dubuque police are asking for help in locating a second suspect in a robbery and shooting of a police officer.

Police were called to Knicker's Saloon, at 2186 Central Ave., at 12:52 p.m. where an armed robbery was taking place. Two men in ski masks carrying shotguns entered the business and ordered everyone to the ground.

"We got down on the floor and I grabbed my phone out of my coat and I got down on the floor and I tried calling (9-1-1)several times and it wouldn't go through," said customer Mandy Molzof.

Another customer, Kenneth Schmidt said, "Oh, when he poked me in the back with the shotgun, yeah I was scared, he said I didn't get down low enough for him and he didn't like it."

Terry Tobin, Acting Police Chief in Dubuque, says after the men left the bar, one took off on foot. That's when the other man exchanged gunfire with Lt. Scott Baxter. Both were injured. At this point we don't know who fired the first shot.

A release by Dubuque Police says Lt. Baxter is in good condition. A witness tells TV9 that she saw Lt. Baxter get shot in the leg.

The suspect who was shot underwent surgery and remains in intensive care.

Police are looking for the second suspect, last seen on foot heading south on Central Ave. He's described as a 20-30 year old black male, 5'5"-5'9" tall, wearing dark jeans with stitching or a pattern on the pockets and white, or light tennis shoes. The suspect may no longer be wearing tan Carhart style hooded coat, as a similar one was found in the area.

No employees or customers in Knickers were injured during the robbery. No charges for either the robbery or officer shooting have been filed at this point.

The incident caused several schools to be locked down for a short period of time, and some school buses to run late.
