CLAYTON COUNTY - Two men face charges for allegedly stealing over $45,000 worth of items in seven separate burglaries in Clayton County.
Matthew Crary, 18, of Guttenberg, and William Mack, 23, of Luana, are being held on burglary and theft charges after a four month long investigation.
On Monday, the Clayton County Sheriffs Office and Iowa State Patrol searched a residence at 209 Truman Street in Luana.
Officers found items related to burglaries throughout Clayton County including: two ATV’s from Joels Tractors and Auction in Elkader, computer laptops, desktops, digital cameras and camcorders from Clayton Ridge Middle School in Garnavillo, a John Deere Riding Lawn Mower from Bodensteiner Implement in Elkader, cartons of cigarettes and 12pks of beer from Sears 66 Station in Garber.
Later that day, officers searched 431 South Second Street in Guttenberg, where they found additional items connecting the residents to the other burglaries.
In all, the sheriffs office estimates value of all property recovered is in excess of $45,000.
Four vehicles were also seized by the sheriffs office and are subject to forfeiture.
Authorities believe that this clears up several burglaries in Clayton County, and have also closed burglary cases in Prairie Du Chien and Grant County, Wisconsin.
Mack and Crary are charged with Burglary 3rd Degree Class D Felony and Theft 1st Degree a Class C Felony. Both are being held on $10,000 bond with additional charges pending. The sheriffs office says a third accomplice has been identified and charges are pending.
