STANWOOD - Authorities are investigating an armed robbery in the Cedar County town of Stanwood.

Sheriff Warren Wethington said a person was robbed around 6:40 p.m. Monday on a side street near the Petromart gas station. The victim was approached by a vehicle with five people inside and at least one gun was involved, Wethington said.

The victim was not injured in the incident. Wethington declined to comment about what type of property was taken and would not say if any arrests have been made.

He referred other questions to Cedar County Attorney Sterling Benz who declined to elaborate on the incident.

“At this point, all I can say is that a complaint has been made and it’s still being investigated,” Benz said.

Stanwood is located about 30 miles east of Cedar Rapids and is home to around 640 residents.
