CEDAR RAPIDS - Police say they arrested two men as they were burglarizing a home in the 2000 block of Bever Ave. SE on Monday morning.
Officers found a car parked outside the home with one of the men inside around 11:00 a.m. They surrounded the house as a second man left the house through a broken rear window, Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said.
Benjamin Walker, 20, and Joshua Bradshaw, 23, were arrested on two counts of third-degree burglary each.
When they searched the car, police said they found two televisions, a Wii system, a PlayStation PSP and seven games. They also found a pile of items inside the home that had not been carried to the car yet.
The items were returned to the owners, with the exception of one TV, where the owner is still being sought, Hamblin said.
“Although none of the items taken were gifts, the theft of these items would have put a damper on this Christmas,” she said.
Hamblin credited a neighbor for calling police.
“Once again, it is because of citizens being observant and willing to help that crime continues to be stopped,” patrol Capt. Steve O’Konek said. “Our department and officers do a great job, but we can accomplish even more when the citizens work with the police.”
