Power Outage Affecting Downtown Cedar Rapids

By Aaron Hepker

CEDAR RAPIDS – For the second day in a row, several hundred Alliant Energy customers in downtown Cedar Rapids spent several hours without power.

An Alliant Energy spokesperson says over 300 customers lost power around ten o’clock Saturday morning. Crews believe the outage was caused by an open electrical breaker. The spokesperson says Saturday’s outage is very similar to the outage that affected the downtown area on Friday.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department and Mercy Hospital both had to use generators for the duration of the outage.

According to the Alliant Energy website, power had been restored by 2:30 Saturday afternoon.
