DES MOINES (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani has made a quick trip to Iowa to apologize to an Olin couple, who was snubbed by his campaign two weeks ago.
The former New York mayor met Monday with Jerry and Deborah VonSprecken.
They were asked by Giuliani's campaign to host a rally on their farm. Then they were told that Giuliani wasn't coming because they didn't mesh with his speech about the elimination of the inheritance tax.
The VonSpreckens say Giuliani's campaign realized they weren't millionaires and canceled.
Giuliani aides say he just learned of the snub over the weekend and wanted to straighten things out.
Deborah VonSprecken told The Associated Press Tuesday that Giuliani was “sincere” and a “down to earth, grassroots gentleman.” They also agreed to chair the Jones County campaign for Giuliani -- and are already at work.
