Iowa Honors Peace Officers Killed in the Line of Duty

By Scott Sanborn

DES MOINES (AP) - Iowa pays tribute Tuesday to peace officers killed in the line of duty.

As part of National Peace Officer Memorial Week, Governor Culver and Public Safety Commissioner Eugene Meyer will hold a wreath laying at the Iowa Peace Officer Memorial at the Capitol.

There have been 133 peace officers killed in the line of duty in Iowa's history.

In February, Des Moines Senior Officer Sean Wissink of Granger died in a car crash north of Grimes. He was the first Des Moines officer to die in the line of duty in nearly 30 years.
