UPDATE: Toddler Dies After House Fire

STEAMBOAT ROCK - A one-year-old has died Thursday after a fire in Hardin County.

The Des Moines Register reports one year-old John Eckheart died at Blank Childrens Hospital in Des Moines. He was taken there after a fire at his family's home on Wednesday.

Firefighters were called to the home of Joe and Janelle Eckheart in Steamboat Rock just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

According to a news release sent out by the Hardin County Sheriff's Office, all seven of the members of the family were taken to the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. One-year-old John Eckheart was then transported to Blank Children's Hospital where he later died.

The other family members, which includes Five kids ages 2 to 6, were treated and released.

Hardin County said firefighters and emergeny personnel were on the scene for about three hours.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Steamboat Rock Fire Department and the Iowa State Fire Marshall's Office.
