SIOUX CENTER (AP) - Authorities say a 78-year-old man is dead after he was pulled from a pond near Sioux Center in northwest Iowa.

The Sioux County sheriff's office says the family of Peter Schouten, of Sioux Center, reported him missing Monday evening when he didn't return home from an afternoon fishing trip.

Authorities found Schouten about 8 p.m. in the water at the Sandy Hollow Campground.

Sheriff Dan Altena says it appears he was sitting by the pond fishing. He says emergency crews aren't sure if Schouten suffered a heart attack or if he fell in the water and drown.
