JOHNSON COUNTY - Slowing for a farm vehicle caused a crash Sunday evening that killed an elderly Iowa City man and sent three other people to the hospital.

The crash happened shortly after 5:30 pm Sunday on Highway 1 just south of Morse Road. The Iowa State Patrol says Richard Tobias, 73, of Iowa City died in the crash.

The Iowa State Patrol says a Buick car was slowing for a turning farm tractor when a pick-up truck driven by Tobias rear-ended the car. Tobias' pickup truck then bounced out into oncoming traffic and slammed head-on with an oncoming Chrysler car then rolled into the ditch.

The driver of the Buick, Robert Siddell, 49, of Solon, and two people in the Chrysler, James Leland, 78, and Eileen Leland, 75, both of Solon, were taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. There's no word yet on their conditions.
