LIBERTYVILLE - The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man who allegedly approached two young teenage girls and asked if they wanted to pet his dog that was in the bed of his truck.
Around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said a man wearing old looking clothing described to be in his 50s, with black and gray hair, drove slowly beside the girls while they were walking from the school bus stop.
The driver, who had a juvenile male as a passenger, leaned over toward the girls and asked them if they wanted to touch and pet his dog. He repeatedly asked them, pulling his truck closer, officials said.
The passenger is described as a high school age male with dirty blond hair covering his forehead, and wearing a faded black sweatshirt.
Authorities said a few minutes later, one of the girls was approached by the same truck but without the juvenile passenger, and the man yelled at her to touch his dog.
The girl ran, and the truck drove south on Douds Rd.
Officials said both girls have seen the same truck numerous times in the mornings and afternoons in Libertyville.
The truck is described as dirty dark blue/black full sized truck, possibly with an extended cab, with Van Buren Co. Plates with a Golden Retriever or Lab in the bed.
Jefferson County Sheriff, Jerry Droz, said no suspects are known at this time but said his office has increased deputy patrol in the area, especially near the bus stop.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Jefferson County Law Center at 641-472-4146.
