DUBUQUE - Travelers in Dubuque could see some major changes at intersections along University Avenue. The city is considering a major overhaul that would re-route the flow of traffic on that busy street.
It's the congested intersections at the corner of University Avenue and Asbury Road. Drivers complain about this messy intersection year round. Now a consultant suggests roundabout intersections as the solution.
The city engineering department recently finished it's East-West Corridor Connectivity Study. That study indicated changes needed to be made to better the flow of traffic in that area.
Pedestrians and bicyclists frequent this section of the city. As part of the plan the city would create enhanced crosswalks at three major intersections.
That would include three-lane cross sections of where University Avenue meets with Asbury Road, Pennsylvania Avenue and near Loras Boulevard.
Coming up tonight on the KCRG-TV9 News at 10, we will talk with city engineers about how much a project of this size would cost the city.
The city is holding an informational meeting right now about that proposed roundabout plan.
It's happening at the Historic Federal building in downtown Dubuque.
City officials will be on hand to answer questions until 7:00 p.m.
