IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man faces an assault charge after physically and verbally abusing a woman around 2 p.m. Sunday.

Alvin Seals, 35, allegedly choked a woman during an argument, hit her head into a wall and caused abrasions to her elbow.

Seals also allegedly urinated on the woman’s belongings and threw a lamp against the wall, threatening to “jab her in the face” with the broken lamp.

According to police, Seals continued to verbally abuse the woman, calling her derogatory names and he said that he wished she was dead.

The woman told police the argument and assault had occurred throughout the day and Seals had told her he would kill her in her sleep.

Seals is charged with domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor, which can result in up to a year in jail and a $1875 fine.
