IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man with prior assault charges is accused of assaulting and attempting to sexually abuse a woman in her home.

Daniel Bothell, 32, allegedly dragged a woman down the hallway of her Iowa City residence while repeatedly hitting her causing injury Monday around 11 p.m., police said. He then allegedly ripped off her clothes and forced her into her bedroom, and told her that he was going to sexually abuse her, according to criminal complaints.

Police said Bothell also bit her in the neck, puncturing her skin.

Bothell pleaded guilty to a previous domestic abuse assault charge in June 2007, and faces another domestic abuse assault charge from an incident in October where he allegedly struck a woman in the face causing bleeding and a black eye.

Bothell is charged with assault with intent to commit sexual abuse and is scheduled for court to set his bond Tuesday morning.
