IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man brought into the Johnson County Jail on a domestic abuse assault was found with marijuana while being searched in the jail.

Police responded to a residence on Taylor Dr, after receiving a 911 hang up call Sunday around 8:30 a.m. A woman told police that Antonio Martin, 29, punched her in the side of her face causing swelling and said she was choked by him a few days prior.

The woman told police she didn’t call before because she was scared and said “I would have died today if I didn’t call".

Martin was arrested and taken to jail where seven individually packages of marijuana and $487 cash were found in his jacket.

Besides the domestic abuse assault charge with intent, he is charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver, and possessing contraband in a correctional facility.
