VENTURA (AP) - George Simpson, 55, only learned he had been elected mayor of Ventura while he was in the hospital being examined after a traffic accident.
Simpson was injured when his vehicle struck a farm tractor east of Corwith late Tuesday afternoon.
Simpson was transported to Hancock County Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. While he was in the hospital his son, who lives in Omaha and was following the election results online, called Tuesday night to tell him he had defeated Lois Kotz for the mayor's post.
Simpson, who is now home from the hospital, said he wasn't seriously injured but feels like six people beat him with baseball bats.
