MIDWEST: Wis. Dentists Buy Back Halloween Candy

By Becky Ogann

MIDDLETON, Wis. (AP) - Trick-or-treaters turned over their candy for cash at a Middleton dentist's office.

Dr. Chris Kammer says he's not trying to end Halloween fun, just donate the extra sugar to troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan as part of Operation Gratitude.

Trick-or-treaters got $1 per pound of candy at Kammer Family Dental Monday. Chris Kammer says the office has received more than 500 pounds of candy so far.

Kammer says kids can still have their Butterfingers, Snickers and Tootsie Pops, but once they've picked over their favorites, they're left with a load of candy they may not want, but may be tempted to eat anyway just because it's there.

Kammer says the candy buy back is part of a national effort involving hundreds of dental offices.
