AMES (AP) - An Iowa State University student is trying to improve recycling efforts at the school by digging through trash.

Environmental studies junior Kevin Marquardt organized a campus
waste sort Friday in which volunteers sorted garbage from six trash
bins on campus. Marquardt says determining what students throw away is a good way of figuring out how to expand campus recycling efforts.

Marquardt says he ultimately plans on compiling a report for ISU President Greg Geoffroy.
