CLAYTON COUNTY - A Clayton County Sheriff's deputy was involved in a duty-related shooting early Sunday morning.

It happened just after midnight in the Clayton County town of Luana.

The Clayton County Sheriff's department says that a suspect led the deputy on a high speed chase, followed by a physical fight. No further details were provided about the actual shooting.

Neither the deputy nor the 35-year-old male suspect, who was not named, were seriously injured. However, both did go to Central Community Hospital, where they were treated and later released.

The suspect is currently at the Clayton County jail under pending charges of “Eluding Police”, “OWI-2nd Offense”, “Assaulting a peace officer”, “Failure to Obey Stop Sign”, and “Driving on the Wrong Side of the Highway”.

The Prairie du Chien Police Department has been contacted to conduct an independent investigation of the incident.

We'll bring you more details as soon as they become available.
