IOWA CITY - An Iowa City woman sits in the Johnson County Jail for allegedly leaving her 4-month-old baby alone while she was at a bar downtown, according to police.
Police responded to 518 N. Van Buren St. No. 5 shortly after 11 p.m. on Oct. 17 where the resident said he returned home from being gone all day to find the baby of Arlene Green, 26, of 2401 Hwy 6 E. No. 4001, in his apartment unattended, according to authorities.
The resident said Green didn’t answer her phone when he tried to call, and Green returned to the apartment a short time later in a cab.
Green denied leaving the baby alone in the apartment and said the baby was with her. According to police complaints, the cabdriver said he picked her up at the corner of Iowa Ave. and Dubuque St., and said she didn’t have a baby with her when he picked her up.
Police say Green had a wristband on from a downtown bar and a blood-alcohol content of .264.
Green is charged with child endangerment-no injury and remains in the Johnson County Jail Sunday morning on a $3,000 cash-only bond.
